Tuesday Chores…..On Tailspin Farms….. Where do I begin?
Maybe the biggest job that separates what we do on the farm “Tailspin Farms” from what others do is our chores. ESPECIALLY, if you have livestock. It’s one of those 24/7, 2-3 times a day things we HAVE TO DO or else our critters will not live very long. If we are getting an animal ready to show, we have to work with that animal every day. Bath and clip them. And the list goes on :). There is no such thing as a “typical day” on a farm. Things vary greatly according to the type of farm, the season, the size, the day of the week, and countless other things. So, know that this is somewhat like my day.
Up a 5 a.m. Coffee, always coffee first. 🙂
While I’m drinking my coffee this is my time to take time to read the bible and pray over my day. It helps my day go smoother.
I start doing some of the house chores before heading outside. Which consists of Laundry-Dog blankets, Clean game room, sweep and mop as needed, clean the cats litter box. Of course I don’t get everything done before going outside I complete when I come back in.
If I am bottle feeding baby goats I get all the baby bottles ready.
Now it’s time to move on outside…I start with taking the trash out and rounding up all the trash cans. Putting all the can’s on a trailer hooked to our cart. Take down to the end of the drive and put them out for the garbage truck.
Feed the rabbits. Feed and water them. If we have babies check them all and make sure they are all doing fine.
Get all the feed mixed up and put in all the animals buckets. Each one of them has a coffee can with their name on it. (Good thing we like to drink coffee!) That way if any of them need a special mix it’s in their can.
Feed the chickens. Let them out of the pen. We let our chicken’s free range during the day. They love it. They follow me around during the day. They are always talking.
Put the horses in their stalls. Feed the horses. Back down to let them out to graze after I’m done with the goats.
Pen all the goats and get ready to feed and milk them. If I have bottle babies they get fed first. Feed the goats. On Tuesdays I trim their feet as needed. After they are all milked they go out in the pasture to free graze.
Back inside, to put up all the milk. We strain the milk into jars and put in refrigerator.
Now it’s breakfast time for me. By this time I’m so hungry.
Now back outside and time to clean the Horse and Rabbit barns. This task takes several hours for one person to do. Also I like spending time with all the animals. They always make me laugh.
Back inside our home to finish up what chores I didn’t get done. I use the crockpots to cook our dinner in a lot!!! I throw the food in and let it cook
Give the dogs a bath. They don’t like Tuesdays. 🙂
Also I have to find time to write for our blog. In-between here and there I set down and write what is on my mind or what has happened here on our farm “Tailspin Farms”.
At 4:30 evening chores start and all the animals have to be fed and put up for the night. Gather all the chicken eggs.
When it turns dark I close up the chicken pen and turn the lights on. We keep lights on our chickens and baby goats at night. This way when I go out to check on them during the night I just have to peek in.
Now this is one of my most favorite times of the day. I get to spend time with my husband Stace. We talk about our day. Have dinner and relax while enjoying each other. He always makes me feel so safe and loved!!
